"Introvert’s Guide to a Smooth First Day in College"
I am an introvert. My name is Tuhin Bin Alamgir.
My first day of college was amazing, scary, and emotional. The distance from my house to college was 3 miles. I started planning everything the night before.
How would it be on the first day of college? There would be many students there, all of them strangers to me. I didn’t know them, and they didn’t know me either.
New Bicycle for College?
I remember when I joined college in 2014, I requested my father to buy me a new bicycle because I didn’t have money. My father was hesitant at first, saying I might not be able to ride it well. But I was confident because I already had experience riding a bicycle.
He still didn’t agree, so I asked him again the next day. Even after that, he refused. My friend Nashar Banda also requested on my behalf the following day, and finally, my father agreed.
$70 New Bicycle!
A flood of happiness is flowing in my mind. A new bike for college and my first day at college—it’s a beautiful bicycle. Next week will be my first day at college, so this week I’m going to enjoy it fully by cycling.
College, new dress, shoes, bags!
What a feeling—I bought a new dress, shoes, and bag to go to college.
After coming home, I put on the dress, shoes, and bag and looked at myself in front of the mirror to see how I felt. When you see yourself in front of the mirror, you may think that you are the most beautiful person in the world, that there is no one like you. When you feel beautiful and smart, your confidence increases.
Fear of the unknown in the mind?
As I am an introvert and prefer to talk less, I was wondering if I could mix with new friends.
Then I thought again that those who will come to college that day are freshers like me. It’s their first day in college, just like mine, so this fear is in everyone.
Finally, the first day of college is tomorrow!
Yes, tomorrow is going to be the first day of my college life. I am very happy; I have started to feel good in my heart. Although there is still a day left, it seems that time is not passing. The day has passed, and the night has come. It’s okay. Trying to sleep at night, why does it seem like the longest night in the world will never end?
Finally, the morning of the first day of college.
I woke up in the morning and refreshed myself before I felt like a magical feeling was calling me.
My parents understand the matter; they smile and ask, “Today is the first day of college, are you happy?” I say, “Yes!”
I finished my breakfast in a hurry, got myself ready, and that beautiful moment arrived—college dress on, bag on my shoulder, new bicycle ready. I said goodbye to my parents and thanked my father for the bicycle. They were all happy that I was going to college for the first time today.
It was like the feeling of first entering the class room!
I entered the college by driving a bicycle and deposited the bicycle in the college garage. Why did the unfamiliar place, the building, the people, the classroom seem familiar? There are classrooms decorated with flowers.
Freshman ceremony.
I didn’t understand that our seniors were ready to receive us. As soon as I entered, they greeted me with flowers and everyone looked at me.
Friends first met in college
I looked around and saw that everyone is a stranger, isn’t it?
After a while I thought someone was sitting next to me and started talking to him.
Say hello to him first and then say I am Tuhin Bin Alamgir what is your name?
It started little by little, the new ceremony was going on, we started enjoying the whole time.
How was the end of the first day of college?
Finally, the program ended, and we all got to know each other. We told everyone, “Well, see you tomorrow in college.” I saw a beautiful smile on everyone’s face.
I finished my first day of college on my bike and came back home. This is how an introvert’s first day of college ended.
