My First Mobile Phone Buying as an introvert
We currently live in an era dominated by information and technology. But if we rewind twenty years, the communication systems and technological advancements we enjoy today were not even imaginable. No one could have thought that we would be able to talk to someone on the other side of the world through video calls or get instant news updates from different continents. Think about someone who passed away thirty years ago suddenly returning to see the modern technological revolution. They would be astounded and likely struggle to believe how far technology has come.
There was a time when mobile phones didn’t exist. People communicated through letters, messages carried by others, or word of mouth. But now, almost everyone has a mobile phone in their hands. What a fascinating development, isn’t it?
Since I am an introvert and you are one too, you can probably relate to the feeling of getting and using your first mobile phone. However, each story is unique. I will share my personal experience of buying my first mobile phone.
I still remember when smartphones were just starting to hit the market, and not everyone had one. I had just enrolled in college. As you may know, the excitement of starting college life is quite intense. One day, I felt a strong desire to buy a mobile phone. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough money to buy a new phone. I had saved some money, but it wasn’t sufficient to buy one. I started thinking about how I could manage the funds since I really needed a phone to keep up with the times.
I decided to ask my family for some money. The next day, I asked my parents, but they refused. They believed that having a mobile phone would lead to bad habits and negatively affect my studies. They were concerned that I might become addicted to it and lose focus on my education.
Despite their refusal, I didn’t give up. The following day, I tried to convince my mother by explaining the benefits of having a mobile phone. I assured her that I would use it for good purposes, such as staying connected, taking notes, and sharing my location. After hearing my reasoning, my mother told me that she would discuss it with my father. I felt a glimmer of hope from her response.
Two days later, my parents called me and asked if I had any savings. I said yes. My father then told me they would give me the remaining amount needed but under one condition: I must use the phone responsibly and not let it interfere with my studies. I promised that I would use it only for beneficial purposes, like communication and learning.
To be honest, I knew the combined amount of my savings and the money my parents gave me would not be enough for a new phone. Still, I was determined to buy a phone, even if it had to be a second-hand one. The next day, I went to college and asked a friend if anyone was selling a used phone. A week later, my friend informed me about a second-hand Symphony phone, though I can’t recall the exact model now.
We went to see the phone. It was in good condition and looked nice. Holding it for the first time gave me a thrilling sensation. After negotiating, I bought it for $30.
Owning my first mobile phone was an incredible feeling. I used it after finishing my studies at night and began learning new things. This was the beginning of an extraordinary journey with my new phone.
